Blue No More

It was in between taking these pictures where I was talked down to and told that I couldn't take pictures on a public sidewalk in front of this ice cream shop because it was private property, and that if I wanted to take pictures it had to be on the other side of the street. Also told that if I took pictures the cops would come and arrest me. All this from a white woman sitting there watching others walk by, mind you 5 minutes later a white younger girl setting up her guitar, microphone, and other instruments to sing alongside her dad on the same sidewalk I was on; without being told a word.

Some might not consider this racial profiling or whatever, but honestly I do. It's just that you might look at me and think, "you're a light complexion Karina," Yes I am, but being told that in a place where I felt like I already stood out, amazed me and not in a good way. I was shocked. And yet stuff like this happens all the time in other places to others. I've been fortunate enough to not have to deal with this hardly ever but it definitely opened my eye and made me feel for those that do. Will it ever be possible for us to just live in a world where we can just let each other be as long as they're not doing any harm?

Before I go way too into depth, I guess the point I'm trying to make is that at the end of the day, how you treat others, let alone strangers says a lot more about you than them. Secondly, you know what I did after being told that? Said okay and did my damn thang anyway! Because one, I move to the beat of my own drum and as long as I'm not doing anything wrong, I'm going to do me. And secondly, I'd be damned if I allowed someone bully me into submitting to their demands.

Moral of the story: be kind to others as you want them to be to you and don't let anyone make you feel inferior EVER. DO YOU BOO!
